MCPS Transition Day is August 24; all students start August 25
MCPS Transition Day is Monday for kindergarten, grades 6 and 9, grade 3 at intermediate schools, and new students. All students start Tuesday; bus routes are posted now.
The facts
- Transition Day is a full-day, non-instructional school experience. Students can meet staff, tour the building, practice routines, and meet classmates before the regular first day.
- Bus routes for 2026–2027 are posted on the MCPS transportation site and in the School Information box on individual school websites.
- MCPS warns that buses may run late at the start of the year because of traffic, arrival and dismissal congestion, and student support needs.
- Families contacting a bus depot should have the student's ID, route number, and school ready.
